Hey, having a difficult time finding compensation numbers for an average software engineer at Gusto. I’m not sure of the internal level mapping, but what would a similarly leveled L4 at Google, Uber, or Airbnb be making at Gusto? Saw a 130k base target (not sure if thats true) but have no data on the stock compensation.
We map from L1 (university hire) to L6 (I believe there is only one of these in the engineering org). Not sure how our levels map to other companies, but as a Gusto L3 I can tell you the base is ~$160k (SF) and stock should be about ~$70k/year for a new L3 hire (at our current preferred price) based on a recent grant from last November. Obviously, there’s a good bit of upside :) Happy to chat more if you like.
Any yearly bonus and what are refreshers like? So can I expect tc to be around 230k?
There are a lot of variables that go into fair compensation. We pay market average in cash and above market in equity. The comp and equity bands are updated yearly and based on role, level, location and market data. At the moment, we don’t have a cash bonus program as we are more equity-heavy - we issue equity grants on promotions, refresh grants, as well as “extra mile” grants.
Gusto’s TC is on the lower range. They gave me an offer where the TC was around $200k-$210k for an internal level that would logically map to “L5.” My other offers from other places I interviewed were all $390k+
