H-1B Work Visa, Fedex tracking number or Receipt Notice?

experience, obligatory tc, no time for that, i am sorry! laid off from fte, effective last date was 3 weeks ago. got multiple consulting roles. every employer is forcing me to start working and bill the client on hourly rates based on the FedEx tracking number for the work visa petition docs, that were filed and reached the immi dept. technically, am i not out of status, and i could begin working only after a work visa petition receipt number arrives at the employer's office? ideally i'd actually have to wait until a visa approval arrives, but ain't nobody got time for that!! Edit - additional question. Is Premium Processing for consulting roles through prime vendor companies subject to RFE these days? Does anyone know of direct approval for consulting roles?

Wait at least for the receipt notice from USCIS. If it was applied under PP then your employer will receive an email in a couple of days with receipt notice. Surely they can wait for few more days. To start working on FedEx receipt notice is lol and shady. All the best!

It’s lol and shady but not illegal, you’re legally allowed to work based on fedex receipt

I like this answer. Starting work on FedEx tracking number is certainly shady. I just dropped a consulting gig this morning that were pestering me for the past two weeks to start working because based on fedex tracking number, petition docs arrived at the NE processing center on Nov 4..

If you're laid off, you've 60 days to find a job and I think there's going to be no issues. Also, you can tell the companies to find in premium processing and wait for 15 days.

That's been my question. 60 days to get a work visa petition receipt number, or just begin working based off of the FedEx tracking number? So far, other replies have been mixed, but waiting for receipt number is certainly a legal thing to do.

Legally you can start working on the receipt. But given the recent increase on rfe/rejection of petitions, I’d wait for the approval.
