One of my friends recently had her H1-B visa extension denied after RFE for speciality occupation (Premium case since there was no change in employer and job duties) She works for Cognizant and client is one of the biggest retailers in US. The reason is not known yet, but she has a CS background with a bachelors degree from India. The attorneys are still contemplating if a new petition can be filed. Not sure what criteria is being applied by USCIS while making the rejections. Tough times for genuine candidates.

I am personally against Indian bodyshop consultancies, but pity you folks who are happy when a deserving person is feeling let down. I personally know this person, and can assure you she is much more talented than many folks from the client team, and probably that is the reason client has already started the process to move her to Canada.
Then why join cognizant? There are better paying product companies and all top tech companies from all over the world have offices in India. If she was truly talented, she would be with those companies and not Cognizant.
What makes her deserving? Because she's your friend? No truly talented people stays working at those companies.

Can she interview and get an FTE position with the retailer?
Yes this is on the cards, and client attorney had suggested to wait until extension is approved as her I94 is expired. Move to Canada is the first step towards this, to avoid illegal stay.
Op to be clear, i have nothing against your friend, just the company she works for. Given that premium is stopped, it will be hard to transfer out. I feel for her, i am dure she has a family and responsibilities, perhaps a mortgage as well, i wish her well.
Yes I too am feeling bad just for her, and am well aware of the practices followed by her company. So can understand the overall happiness expressed by some folks.
I usually advice to all people these days to start looking out before catastrophy strikes. But some of these cts projects are in remote cities where there are no other opportunities, and interviewing means relocating, possibly splitting the family...It is a choice between the rock and a hard place
Cognizant, TCS, Infosys etc sends more ass kissers and low skillled Dunbards then high skilled people. I bet your friend was either a QA or BA.

She is an SDET, and is talented enough to be at par with many of the SDEs around. Her resume is very strong. So probably the company name affected her chances

I could have disclosed her TC to you, if not for the last line in your post. I can show you many such so called high earning non-deserving SDEs who work in my team. Your criteria of judging a person’s skill uses a wrong metrics called “TC”. You would never clear the “bar” in my org with these skills.
I disagree. These body shoppers never pay. So the comp will be at par with their Pascale, perhaps < 100K. Ppl can get stuck in these jobs for reasons other than incompetence, example proximity to family, GC track where changing jobs are harder, and most importantly ignorance, many think IT = engineering, and once in a rut it is hard to escape. As I said before, these companies promote mediocrity provides a cushy environment(imagine not having to leave the country because ur project ended or was scrapped, as u r in CTS payroll and will be reassigned) these used to be the lures. Now that the visa system is under scrutiny, the govt has got them by the balls

I am Indian and so happy to hear this. I am with Trump here to allow only highly qualified people to enter US. There are so many more deserving people not getting this visa because of misuse by Indian consulting companies.
Please do your research before calling Cognizant an Indian consulting company. And the word deserving is very subjective. Nevertheless I would not get into any further debate about who is deserving and who is not.
Bro, there are 2 direct vendors reporting to me. I am so frustrated with their dumbness. I handhold them in every single thing. I am in process of getting rid of them and getting a full time employee. Again, my opinion is about a median consulting companies employee. I totally agree with you that there can be smart employees working there as well.
