H1B visa holder, laid off from the current employer and have another job offer. What steps to wait for before starting

with the new employer? Can I start right after the new employer files for H1B and before the transfer gets approved?

      No. But this is risky too, because your transfer may not go through. That has changed in these times. But well you don’t have another option

      I don’t want to start a new employment relationship by saying that I was laid off from a previous one so can’t go to the immigration teams of either companies

    OK- this is how it’s going to play out. Generally you have 30/60 days before you go out of status. You also go out of status if the date on your I94 expires. When you go with the new employer they’ll ask you to send them the new pay slip when they are filing for H1Transfer. If you give a month old payslip they usually know something is up. Try to find an employer ASAP so that you are still OK with the last payslip from your ex-employer. Timing is everything.
