It's a political stunt.
I agree that it is mainly a political stunt to dissuade h1-b families. However, if an alternate scenario led to the creation of 100,000 permanent jobs for US workers, people would be excited (not some short-term concrete pouring for a building). It could have long-term benefits to the American people, which should be the only priority of the president and rest of the government. That priority does include our economic policy to head-hunt high value STEM people from other countries.
Those H-4s could have converted to H1b and work on a proper visa. Should have used the chance they had over last 2 years to get some experience and get a sponsorship. FAANG and GAAANDU and Tier 2 companies were giving out interviews left and right to those who were qualified. Many H-4s did move up the company tiers and are very successful and got their H1b process started by their new employer. My international friends at work tell similar stories and support the H4 ban because in 2018 they take up menial jobs meant for US citizens.
Why wouldn't they shout against L1 spouse, which has more spouses taking away jobs. H4 is a bandage, the real problem is that we need to fix backlog.
I don't know much about immigration but I looked through the US State Department website and saw under visa categories that L1 is employer sponsored. Employer sponsored means the people have been vetted and interviewed and got the high skilled job. That also means their visa was approved for that specific job.
About 100,000 is the impacted number
The day tcs, infosys and hcl will stop getting these visas that is the day trump will make a change for good. Side note why arent ppl from those companies here
If you start believing ndtv, everyday the senate is passing a new immigration bill. “Planning” word in first sentence is a clear sign of clickbait.
Most of those commenting on here are from India - a country where the government call immigrats from Bangladesh “termites”, don’t even want to acknowledge immigrants as humans. But when it comes to Indian immigrants, they are the most entitled.

You do know right that the ones who are eligible for H4 EAD are just stuck on the GC queue? Technically, if they were born in any other country they would have anyways be allowed to work due to getting a GC.
Let them be born in the country of choice. And then let them try to immigrate to India on merit based program as a life experience.
