How many of you sell your stock as soon as it vests to put it in an index vs just leaving your RSU as is.
Never hold RSUs - always diversify.
I don’t like my company to be too heavy in my portfolio. I try and hold it until I get the best tax rate and then diversify.
Yep, wait for long term capital gains rate then sell.
There is no Long term capital gains for RsU. You pay income tax on the shares you get. That’s it. You can create a long term gain (or loss) by holding on longer, but that would be the same as with any other stock.
It’s basically a 50-50. Anyone want to preach about betas and what risk one takes by just holding?
You’re already overinvested in Amazon simply by virtue of working there. Sell your RSUs as soon as you can and diversify. Don’t be a dumbass and try to time the market.
If you received cash instead of RSUs, would you buy company stock? If yes, hold RSUs. If no, sell them. On the flip side, why stop at what they offer you? You can buy additional company shares on the stock market anytime! In other words, why let your company determine your asset allocations and position sizes? Choose holdings that you’re comfortable with, and buy/sell to meet those holdings. I sell immediately and diversify. With tech the way it has been, I’ve “lost” money over the years at various companies by diversifying. But I still feel it was the right decision for my risk level, and will continue to do it going forward.
Always sell
Hodl if working at FA_G. Otherwise, sell.
