After 16 years in this country, had my naturalization interview today. I have been recommended for the oath ceremony. Surprisingly, the officer grilled me quite a bit on why I left my employer after getting the green card, despite the fact that I stayed with them for 5 years prior to getting it, and that I quit 6 months after the card. I also went to work at a different company but in the same exact role for which I was granted the EB2. It’s not that I went from SWE to restaurant owner. After repeating that I kept doing the same job for which my EB2 was granted in the first place (showing him my resume indicating my natural career progression across companies) he relented and moved on. But damn, I thought N400 was mostly a bureocratic thing!
Congrats that will probably be the last time you will be grilled at the kind of job you are doing
Definitely grateful. I just wasn’t expecting more grilling after all these years and the 4 different visas I went through. Just sharing my experience in case it will be useful to other Blind folks in this situation (leaving after GC)
Grateful for what? You're providing needed skills to their country. They should be grateful to you.
Isn’t the ceremony same day?
No. He said it will be scheduled within the next couple months.
Congrats on the acomplishmemt. Truly something to celebrate and be proud of.
do you really have to explain all that to them? natural career progression and all that ? are you indian?
No. White from Europe.
White is white. Why add europe to it? I sense a failed desi here
Did you get any of the civics questions wrong?
No. He stopped at 6 instead of 10 because I got all the first 6 right.
👍
How long did it take?
Impossibly long. Filed September 2018, there is a massive backlog, at least in SF.
I know it is not the end of the world but I dream of such a day when I will be free from visa worries and sit by the lake at 10AM, take my lunch box out and have my sandwich smiling. Probably pass some bread crumbs to those geese around too
Congrats!!
