Hardware engineer duties at Facebook infrastructure
I am trying to understand the duties of Hardware Engineer at Facebook Infrastructure team? Do you guys, Do your own Simulations, Component Selection, Schematics, Overlook Layout, board bringup, DVT etc? The question arises since the Infrastructure team works with ODM and that confuses me on what work is done inhouse and what are responsibilitues/duties of Hardware Engineer.
Yes, FB does all of those things.
Do they do all that in house? Don’t they work with ODM? I’m talking about infrastructure team specifically.
Very limited use of ODMs for Infra HW. Almost all of the design and testing is done in house.

I thought they just paid Foxconn to do it all. Hardware at FB is most likely just there to deal with failures & triage.

They basically just define specs and do some validation on their own. Check their OCP documents, they define high level specs and all designs work is done by their ODM vendors
