Hartford CT area Microsoft Tech Stack

Hi, i have an opportunity to work with a Microsoft partner TC would be around 185 with additional incentivized comp potentially surpassing 200. Current TC is 155-160. One of the biggest differences is the work day - consulting companies like 9+ hr days while my current gig is pretty lax, has great benefits, renote work, big 401k match etc. However, i think the move could be a game changer for career with a trade off of work life balance. It seems like a tough decision - any thoughts on this? (i was initially submitted higher since there are satellite offices in boston and nyc, but they came back with a COL adjusted number above which i have already pushed back on). thanks 9 yoe, with grad degree

I don’t think Hartford, CT is much of a tech hub so I’m not sure how this job would be a game changer for your career. Relocating to a tech hub and getting a job at a tech company seems like it would be more of a game changer than taking a consulting gig with an MS partner in Hartford.

Thanks for your comment, I agree. I suppose game changer was a stretch. One appealing aspect is being able to work on different projects with different clients with a focus on continually learning new tech. Hartford is an insurance hub and things move slow most of the time

Don't have much advice. Just nice to see another Hartford area person on here!

That’s cool, likewise! I know several people at Travelers and they have had some positions that caught my eye in the past. How do you like working there?

Great company for work-life balance, pretty good pay, good benefits, good opportunities for advancement. Downsides are the same you'll find at any insurance company. Lack of perks (not even free coffee), overall 'slow' feeling of anything changing/upgrading, and could be a positive or negative..but people tend to just stay here forever and seemingly settle. For reference.. I am a SWE with 3 YOE here. 75k TC but likely a jump to 85-90 this winter.
