Have seen so many depressed posts about one's own comp. To be honest have been depressed about the comp myself too. Wanted to post here what Harvard graduates make: https://features.thecrimson.com/2018/senior-survey/after-harvard-narrative/ Incredible since I know so many no-name school graduates at tech companies making a lot more. Pretty sure 90% of Blind users upon seeing this will report a double-digit increase in their happiness. I certainly have. Every time you see a braggart or "millionaire" on Blind, just think of those elite, super smart, prestigious Harvard grads making $70K a year.
Dang, avg new grad salary is still ~50k? Wasnt that the case like 10-15 years ago as well? Hasnt gone up at all.
Now about 51k, as high as 55k at one point. Demand for no experience is shrinking and like everything else in the economy the delta between have and have nots is growing. New cs grads are making 250k out of college while new history grads make 18k.
That’s the problem. Salaries have just remained stagnant. Rich getter richer and poor getting poorer. Only way out is software engineering.
$70k where? Citing salaries without locale is useless.
Well regardless of the location it’s 50% of Harvard grads. Since their grads are spread across the country I can’t imagine all those making 70k are in low cost cities
Life ain't a sprint, it's a marathon. What are those Harvard grads making after 10 years? How many of them are already worth millions and don't give a shit how much their first year comp is?
How about they have way worse chances of making 200k, on average, even after 10 years, than a CS grad Yes a few who go into PE may make a lot, but a large portion wont even make close to what FAANG engineers make
What's your point? They make an average of 20k more than average undergrads in the first year. So what? First year comp is meaningless.
I mean I got 160k TC out of college from a public school, but I don’t think I am an outliner among my CS friends.
Location makes all the difference. 100k in SF is like 30-40k in North Carolina.
