I.T Support... The average customer thinks nothing of the role except when they're stuck frustrated with their equipment in need of technical assistance. While the I.T Technical Support is around solving the problems that you couldn't we are often required to think out of the box and approach every incident methodically. This problem solving skill is easily overlooked and I.T techs are commonly underpaid. Why is this? We have to constantly upskill our Tech abilities as Technology changes and evolve with the times, yet salaries don't seem to follow this philosophy. Thoughts?
Yeah high supply of IT now and most problems can be solved by googling around
It used to be a career, but now there’s a lot of supply and less demand. Tech is also easier to fix than before. I used to do IT support back when I was in high school. I made 7-14 bucks an hour. I eventually moved into the server admin and then also network admin/engineer roles as I grew. You should look into network support entry level jobs. Or learn the cloud, get aws certs, and try that route. You can’t just stick with one skill set your whole life, you always need to keep learning or you will be left behind. Newer tech also has a lack of understanding, so it helps you become a hotter commodity.
IT support is value added on top of IT equipment vendors. It is the vendors interest to make their stuff better n charge more over time. Also, over time, users learned how to run stable software. These 2 factor will eat into the value of IT support. Especially, the current cloud, app on the web trend.

Probably because everyone and their mother in the Current Year can fix their IT problems.
Yep this job now looks like most other trade work. Software engineer is next. 20 years give or take.
