I’m having a hard time working with a new grad at work. We are collaborating at the request of my manager, and it essentially feels like I am working with a child. This person is a combination of selfish, entitled, and of average intelligence so our team work goes like so: Me: Rationally explains how to execute something according to company requirements and guidelines. New Grad: Argues every point, with arguments they find “thought provoking” but are essentially naive, against company guidelines, and poorly researched. Me: Explains calmly to them why things can’t happen their way, we come to an agreement. Me: I sync with upper management on our deliverables, and let them know our plans. New Grad: Disregards planning, or the fact that they are working in tandem with someone else, or in a corporation, does everything their way w/o telling me and f%cks everything up. Anyone encounter someone like this? We have to work together till the end of next month and I am afraid they will bring down the level of quality I like to maintain.
You need to speak to the manager who requested this collaboration. Clearly state your fear of lesser quality due to the concerns.
Where were you these past 10years? This is the result of going from one extreme to another extreme with a slight visit in the middle. Welcome to entitled, unappreciated, gotta give me everything I want, snowflake don't scream at me need a safe space era.
Sadly these shit are not limited to youngsters only... IT industry is full of those in all possible demographic configurations...
Of course. Never said young haha. Look at what is happening with all these new, social media Giants shaping, influencing and basically brain washing weak minded individuals with censorship and targeted marketing etc.
Hey! I'm not naive! But I'm a child at heart
What if youre the one so stuck up your ass that you cant even see better solutions and want to implement same old useless solutions and guidelines you think is right. From the way you phrased the post, seems to me youre a stuck up who cant change their ways and be open to new solutions. If youre so great why does Microsoft still suck at delivering decent products
what does autodesk deliver? heard ikea was planning to acquire them
Do you even know what products Autodesk builds? Autodesk has some very capable teams and well defined org structures, unlike many large corporations who forgot how to communicate across teams and reduce dependencies 😀
Separate tasks. Assign all the shit tasks to the new grad and let the person fuck up and burn. You continue doing your own shit and maintain the quality of your own shit. If the grad is difficult to work with, there is no point to teach the mother fucker. Do things that benefit you. Don't let others drag you down.
Thanks
Be patient. Work with him. It will be one more feather in your cap.
I disagree. OP already tried to teach the grad, and the grad disregarded the help. Cannot always be mister nice guy. Some people are just not worth helping.
I blame Mr. Rogers
I'm sorry sir 😔
Let me replace him?
