Health insurance when changing jobs

Myself, wife and baby are on my health insurance plan. I start a new job next month but it will be 1 month gap. Can we switch over to my wife's health insurance plan through her employer? She's currently on maternity leave.

Yes - loss of coverage is usually considered a qualifying life event, which should mean you can enroll.

Great. Could I have that for just like one month? My new employer is gonna have much better coverage anyways but I don't want to be without coverage for a month. If I can do this for just one month I would do that cause Cobra can be expensive. Like over 1500$ according to my limited research.

Use cobra

You can sign up for Cobra retroactively within 60 days (in case you need coverage).

Really there is only one thing I will need and that is one routine pediatrician appointment for shots. Do you think just that would merit getting cobra?

Schedule the routine appointments before the break. Apply for Cobra if there is an emergency (it is expensive).
