I am a very heavy sleeper. Once I sleep it’s hard for me to wake up even if you make noise or something. My company has oncall system we use an app called pager duty. The only problem is that once our server went down at 3:00 AM and despite the pager duty app buzzing me I didn’t wake up and finally it got escalated to another member of my team who responded. How do I manage this? It’s not that I’m not committed to my job .... it’s just that I sleep pretty heavy.

Have already 2 kids but they are now 6 and 9. So they don’t give me sleepless nights
Dang man!! You rock!!!
Google home speaker or amazon Alexa. Whichever and however can redirect that pager tool to one of these speakers?
I set a custom alarm -- extremely obnoxious and it lasted for about 5 seconds. I think my next step would've been to plug my phone into a speaker ...
I’ve had this problem before, especially after several days of bad on-call. Get a Fitbit model that vibrates when you get a call. Wear it to sleep so that the vibration wakes you up. Worked much better for me, and it’s also much less intrusive for your partner if you have one.
Yes I do have a SO and she is the exact opposite of me. Disturb her once by little noise and she won’t sleep the whole night...
Damn, that’s brutal
Get a medical note to excuse yourself from on call duty.
Naah. Makes me look bad in front of the team.

Do Not Disturb and have PagerDuty keep calling you before the page escalates. Obviously, you have to add the PagerDuty number to your favorites for this to work.
New york times article link or it didn't happen
There are various things you can do: 1) If you are on Android, override the system volume settings. 2) Add the PagerDurty vCard: https://www.pagerduty.com/assets/outgoing-numbers.vcf , and assign a custom ringtone and priority (that way it's not your standard call settings, and you can override Do Not Disturb on the contact) 3) Configure your PD notification settings for extreme paranoia mode - see image
This guy oncalls.
Thanks ... this is very useful.
