Help me: Thinking of moving to Oracle OCI from MS

I'm an L63 at MS, 6 yoe with about 190k in TC (excluding benefits), might get a promo in another 6 months.

I have an offer from Oracle OCI Seattle, TC is 280k for IC3/Senior Dev.

At MS, I like my manager and team but work hasn't been interesting or challenging lately.

Seems like an easy choice when the offer is 100k more but I'm worried about the following:
- future of OCI, seems like a risk.
- there were layoffs recently in Oracle, probably not in OCI, but still..
- benefits will be poor compared to MS
- still have $100k unvested stocks in MS.

Please help me!
PS: I'm not on Visa, so that's one less risk to worry about.

Please don’t move to OCI. I made a huge mistake by moving from Microsoft.

      1) commute went up from 30mins one way to 1hr 30mins one way
      2) wlb is bad
      3) no recognition or promotion
      4) not many teams to move internally
      5) risk of layoff/pip increased

Pros: more pay, you learn more than you can learn at Microsoft

That's fair, what's stopping you from going back to Microsoft? Or to any other companies?

You can't replace happiness with more money. If you like your team and manager and compensation, consider staying. If you want to chase money and risk happiness, leave.

Layoff wasnt always a bad thing. You should get all data points before making decision.

Don’t. Look at the layoffs website to know what’s going on there.

Do you have other offers? Why move to a dying company?

If you are from Amazon, it will be okay, much better than Amazon. Layoff ??? Not in OCI, Amazon is much worse.

You should factor in unvested stock, personal cost of the difference in benefits, parking cost if you drive (can be 4K a year so not trivial). Is the difference worth leaving a manager and team you like and taking on the risk if you are working on a visa?

Don’t think much. Stay where you are. I don’t think you are going to get a lot of interesting work even at OCI. Yes layoffs happened at OCI and probably will happen in the future.

6 years in one level? That’s long, my friend, you should be at least L64. I would move to another company or team in your case

Lots of layoff at Oracle are ex-msfties, and it is always the msfties who care so much about job security. Very interesting. If you are a good engineer, you can easily find a good offer within weeks given current demand. And if you are bad, doesnt matter where you go, you will be at risk of getting fired.

Just go for money. Any company has lay-off. If that happens, just interview for a new one with 100k more you already earned.

I have a verbal offer from OCI that cannot move to written due to recently laid off.

    Just FYI
