Help with vindictive manager

Looking for suggestions on how to deal with a vindictive manager who’s hell bent on making my career miserable. We’ve had personal conflicts when we both were peers(indirect) before he became my manager and now he’s screwing me in performance reviews and painting his version of it which is far from truth.

He’s even gone to great lengths to bad mouth me to other hiring managers within the company and now I have a reason to believe he plans to screw me this year again performance review. I really busted my ass this year to keep my review up hoping to switch team as soon I can, but it seems unlikely. I even solicited feedback from all of my clients to truly understand if there’s room for improvement and all of them are really happy with my work.

I have already talked about this to my skip-level a few times now and he seems seldom interested in stepping in. I didn’t want to go to HR because they’re here to protect Management and not employees, however i am now documenting each and every conversation in memos. I want to find a new team within my company who’s willing to hire me first before going to HR so my manager and his skip can’t block my move.

I even started looking at roles outside. Last year I had a good offer but it didn’t work out due to visa sponsorship issues. Worse yet my pay hasn’t improved in last couple of years.

Can some one please help how to navigate this situation. Thanks

Wow I was just on the other thread talking about exact same issue .to talk about such jackass managers and which companies r worse than others .. why does the HR sucks big time . Such people need some support in the company.
Document to be prepared to challenge the performance reviews but also keep looking aggressively. Wish I could help more.. as someone else on other thread suggested we need a union to protect such people from such managers and HR racket !! #HR sucks

Document, document, document. If your boss says you screwed the pooch on project X, and you have feedback from the customer on that project that you were a rock star save that data. Use it for a formal challenge for the review.

Otherwise, not much you can do other than move groups. With visa issues you're limited in ability to jump ship.

Documenting is useless. They will call you to meeting with HR, tell the news and the you will be escorted.
      Documentation is urban legend.

And while we are at it, refrain from making enemies at work place even if you are not on temp visa.

Document everything! In your meetings with your manager, ask for actionable feedback and what can be improved, what needs to be done to get your desired ratings. Talk about these expectations and deadlines. Then share these meeting notes with him as well

Basically, make it all accountable so that they can't change things later on
