As a employee that is.. curious how people view these 2 differently
Stripe and it's a no brainer.
Stripe
Stripe long shot
Dang. Should I look into joining Stripe? Are there details to why people feel Stripe >>> Square?
Usually the more opinionated ones are those who’ve never even worked in this space. Square is good too
Stripe. Square consistently disappoints in GPV growth slowdown YoY. There's no more innovation there and they can't even seem to get country launches out the door. The fact that it's only 5 countries is an embarrassment when the penetration is so low for each overseas market despite years operating in each. Square lost the international war. It wasn't even close. PayPal GDP growth YoY is almost the same % as Squares at this point, despite being several times larger. It's all riding on the coattails of Cash App now.
Maybe it’s strategic to focus on a few markets?
Theoretically, but there's no plan for real international market expansion. PayPal's acquisition of a European startup gives them immediate access to so many markets. Displacing them in the future will be very hard with each oncoming year Square does nothing. Not to mention that Square isn't even doing that well in the international markets anyways. We're not investing heavily into making them better quick enough. Our growth is abysmal.

Square has definitely lost its Midas touch, have heard multiple things from friends who have interviewed. I have interviewed with them recently and also had a similar experience. I personally use job interviews to evaluate a company as much as they try to evaluate me as a candidate. So stripe it is
I’m trying to get a interviewe at Stripe RN. Thanks for the insight
Stripe is really in a good spot. I’m giving general advice. Treat it like a faang and prepare for it like you really want it.
