Following this post, in the same boat as OP.
Bellevue DT is overrated and uber expensive. Of course expensive is a subjective opinion. Seattle downtown may hold its value better when housing market slows down. We are DINK too but are trying to hold our money till a downturn happens. The housing market is on a slippery slope right now and investing heavily at this point sounds risky to us.
I’d wait, housing prices are likely going to go down further
Personally DT Bellevue is prime real estate. I’d pick it any day over DT Seattle. Some will say it’s more dry and not as exciting. Pfft...whatever. Seattle isn’t for me since I stopped being a hipster years ago and stepping over bums on the sidewalk isn’t as edgy as it used to be. Even if you do have kids, you can chill in that place for the first 5+ years easily. Schools are generally good. Crime is low. Overall a very pleasant place to live and work. Whether it’s a good investment is another story. Markets are hard to predict. Condos ride equity waves quick like SFH but depreciate in a downturn faster. But business is expanding into Bellevue And Bellevue has always been super expensive.
I think buying an apartment is silly. Best of luck. Have fun and be safe.
Why silly?
Maybe one day you do have kids. Do you want to pray the value of your apartment is still atleast even? Let’s say a small shift happens in the market and your apartment is now worth $250,000 less than you bought it for, and no one is buying. You’re SOL. If you rent, it’s an easy fix to move to an actual home where you can raise a family for the long term. My point is, why buy an apartment, when the long term value isn’t there? Maybe if you thought you could flip at a higher price? I don’t know, to risky for me.
