      10 new people + founders that's already 12-13. You can pay them mostly in equity but they still have to survive so you'll have to give at least 100-150k cash depending on experience. + cost of interviewing and paperwork.. That's already 2 mil burn rate per year.
      You also need to add cost of equipment and office space.. and most importantly, whatever the product is - their market share needs to grow so that's (customer acquisition and infra costs) additional burn rate of couple mil, if not more (depends on the product).

      At this rate they'll run out of funding before they hit any milestones.^

      The biggest red flag is that it seems like the founder just got money and 'feels' like s/he needs to hire to 'feel' successful; I get his sense because the positions seem unfinalized and kind of random.
      At this stage of a startup, every penny still counts, so if s/he wants to make it, s/he should only hire if absolutely necessary.. as you can see, that's not quite what's happening in here.

      I wouldn't touch this startup with a 10 mile pole. Waste of an engineers valuable youth

      @festive if 2m burnate for the team, and another 2m for office rent and go-to-market, that's 4m/yr. He has more than 3yrs easily.
      It shouldn't take more than a year to achieve milestones and then raise another round.
