Hostile workplace?

Is there anything to be done about a VP ( my direct manager) who consistently berates individual subordinates in a group setting? I’ve tried speaking the them about this. 2 weeks later after I mentioned I really hate it being done to me, it happened again. It happens with both managers and ICs. I have a thick skin, that’s not the main issue. Org morale suffers as a direct result of this behavior.

Transfer teams, or shop around. You can't change managers.

Time to change teams or company, unfortunately VPs have a high responsibility, to implement a good culture but they abuse drugs

Sit at your manager’s desk tomorrow, known power move and will impress both your manager and the execs.

Have a team building activity in which you all watch Jeff Weiner’s Managing with compassion videos along with the VP 😉

You know, the sad thing is I’m sure this VP has seen this sort of video/training many times. And this management style is shared and encouraged by the SVP. I think they truly believe this way is better.

Is your VP a man or woman?

🙄

Interested in relevancy, but woman.

Here’s the thing. I hired a few people in who I really like. I hate the thought of leaving and abandoning them to be subject to this abuse. Yes, some people in management do actually have a conscience.

Oracle YAmIHere OP Oct 3, 2019

Would it not make a difference if enough people who feel the same way took a complaint to HR? There have been a number of individuals who have transferred out or left my company as a result of this practice. I like where I’m at otherwise. I’d like it to be a good place.

Machiavellian collusion? VP will find out and specifically put those people on the shitlist/PIP list. It could work if HR is a serious org and not toilet paper to be used by Sr. Management.

I’m brave but not crazy.

You can't force people to change, but Karma generally kicks back. I've seen a manager get terminated when someone was promoted to a position above the manager. A VP does have someone to answer to. ;)
