New Grad Software Engineer YOE: 1

Houzz stock offer: 30K rsu (apx 330K with current evaluation) - 2 year rsu lock

Vesting is over 4 year.. 1/4th at the end of one year.. later monthly prorated

Is houzz doing good? Are rsus worth it? Does houzz plan to go IPO soon? (Recruiter says within 2 years)

How the hell does the recruiter know the company will IPO in 2 years? If it’s 2+ years out, probably nobody knows exactly when it might happen. If it’s less than that, the recruiter probably shouldn’t be talking about it.

Never take a recruiter’s word for anything like this.

If you’re going for the risk, ask for more stock. Don’t take the recruiter’s word for it, a recession is likely within the next 2 years which could heavily impact Houzz.

Not saying they’re a bad company (I like their app a lot) but considering you’d get the same offer from G/FB, you should get more RSUs because more risk and you cant cash out now (time is money).

Thanks for the info! Do you think 30k rsu is less as others suggested?

And perf bonus is mentioned by recruiter as 3-8%. What's a realistic target I can count on?

    • Solid base for new grad. Don’t worry too much about equity - it’s paper money any ways and your amount is okay for new grad this year. You can ask for sign on/ relocation if you haven’t yet.

Houzz is past that point of failure in the startup lifecycle (unless something catastrophic happens of course like huge recession). It’s a must-have app if you’re doing some home remodeling, at least to get ideas.

I also think it would be a better learning opportunity for OP, provided he/she can work in a lot of different areas (frontend, backend, ML, data engineering, analytics).

Just ask for more equity that’s all.

Why dont they get equity? You mean startups turning public have very low probability?

Houzz has got decent funding and current evaluation of 4B$..

I guarantee houzz is not profitable. 99% of pre ipo companies are not profitable and have to raise money for a reason
