Houzz(Palo Alto) TC: 135k base, 10k signon, 5k relocation. 30k RSU(approximately $330k based on recent valuation),1/4 every year (if you quit in 2 years, you have to return all RSU).

Groupon(Seattle) TC: 120k base, $40k signon, $20k RSU every year. 10% performance bonus.

Didn’t make it into FANNG as a new grad, only get these two offers.
How to compare these two offers? What’s the pros and cons to choose between two companies? How is Houzz doing in terms of profit and IPO? Is it worth to renege on an accepted Groupon offer because of this new Houzz offer?

I don’t care things like WLB, location. Plan to stay in Groupon for 1 year or In Houzz for 2 years. Just want to choose an offer that can best grow my career.

Need to make decision as soon as possible. Any advice is appreciated!

Spirit seems to be low in Groupon recently, people are fleeing out. Not a good place to work anymore. Feel extremely frustrated. I really like working there, but it seems not to be good for my long term career growth. Thanks for you advice! I will consider it seriously!

Honestly if your plan is just 1 year you'd be completely fine at Groupon but morale is not great now

@col.After carefully thought, I think I need to work in a more motivated and fast paced environment. Working in a startup may push myself to grow faster. Anyways, I enjoyed working with Groupon folks, I learned a lot from you guys. I will feel sorry and guilty if I decided not to join you guys eventually.

    Houzz

I am interviewing with Groupon now and I have yet to find someone to tell me it’s a good choice! All my friends think I am wasting time with the interview as it doesn’t make sense to join them.

    Houzz all the way

Which team? It all depends, a great manager is more important than the company itself.

As a new grad I’m pretty sure you can grow as fast as you can in any normal company within one year. So if I were you, I’d think more about the team and manager (check his/her career path + team members), which team you are more interested in etc. A good mentor will help you save years in career ladder climbing because he will constantly coaching you to do the most meaningful thing that helps you grow. If IPO is important to you then that’s another story :)

Team lead at Houzz has really impressive profile according to her LinkedIn, which is an important part that attracts me.Most Groupon guys here are like all vote for Houzz. Which solidifies my beliefs that moving to Houzz is not a bad choice. Gonna notify HR and my future Groupon manager by the end of this week. I know it’s not good to renege on an accepted offer, but I have to do whatever I think that more aligns with my career goal. Thanks for your advice! Wish all the best to guys in Groupon.

curious to know - what aspects are impressive?

coaching and growing people is not visible through LinkedIn for the profiles I have seen. You have to talk to the person and the team and ask the right questions.

Houzz has more upside, and all they have to do to succeed is be slightly less dumb than Wayfair. Not a hard challenge. Seems like the winner over Groupon.

$330k worth RSU for new grad. Good for you if that’s what you got. Sounds a bit excessive to be honest. You probably hit it out of the park in the interview at Houzz.

Houzz is still private, so the stock is literally worthless. Actually, I don’t think they can go public in near future.
