How might we improve the safety of gun use? Example: - A circuit within bullets that could be closed to prevent the gun pin from striking the powder (a bullet "safety") - a device that can be placed in public places (like schools) that triggered the safety circuit on all bullets within a certain radius (creating a zone where bullets couldn't fire) - program police handguns to operate in these areas for law enforcement purposes - have the device tech run on blockchain so it would be extremely difficult to hack - create a consumer version of the device that would allow people to set up bullet safety areas around their own home - make the bullet safety tech mandatory for all bullet manufacturers What can you think of? Or what can you add to any existing ideas? Btw- work the problem. Don't bash others' ideas- build on them or offer a different solution.

Democrats: Support Tax on Unrealized Gains?
We don't. Society needs an overhaul. Fix society then your gun problem is fixed
How can you communicate this as an idea? Fix what, exactly? What idea would you test first?
Let me give another perspective. With all those massacres, a teen still have more risk of dying from a car accident (76%), domestic accident (12%), and degenerative disease (7%). Murder is less than 0.1% of causes of teen death. The fact that mass murders take over news and politics is the true problem to be solved. We are still monkeys when making decisions based on statistics.
My teenager has to be in a car. He doesn’t have to get shot. If you’re going to use that argument, let’s stop worrying about Muslim terrorists entirely, since odds of dying from an asteroid hitting earth are greater.
I'm not worried about Muslim terrorists at all. I do worry about Muslim politics, because they are terrible for individual and economic freedom.
I still think a random exploding Muslim extremist will kill you before an asteroid. There is a bomb going off almost every day in the Middle East.
And do you live there?
You might want to use something other than google to get your news, or at least open a history book. Muslims have been terrorizing other Muslims forever because they aren’t Muslim enough. It’s bleeding into other parts of the world. My assertion still stands, you’re more than likely to be killed from a Muslim than an asteroid.
Somebody's been playing Metal Gear Solid 4
Can we think of constructive ways to improve security at schools? Metal detectors, more security guards, don’t allow cars and drop off’s/pick up inside schools, better layout for cars to park outside school, kids walking to classes etc.
Forget about regulating guns, place restrictions on purchasing and reloading ammunition. EG - limit purchase at store to 50 rounds. Repurchase requires return of spent brass/proof of use for rimfire/shot guns. Rec Ranges would be exempt for on premises usage - shoot as much as you like, but you buy it/leave it there. Heavily regulate and require license and registered purchasing of reloading supplies and equipment. Sales of private party reload ammo is expressly banned with stiff penalties and jail time and unregistered use of private reload ammo on a range is reported to authorities (with stiff penalties for non compliance). Stockpiling ammo > 100 rounds of ammo of any type in the personal possession of a registered owner is a felony. Tax ammunition sales to fund better mental health programs and funding for domestic violence, and substance abuse programs. Obvious exceptions for police, etc - but if you want to restrict the utility of a tool, restrict the resources that makes the tool viable.
What about black markets for ammo?
I’m sure there are black markets for converted, fully automatic AR15s, the conversion is fairly straightforward, but doing it comes with lengthy federal prison sentences as does possessing a fully automatic weapon without a ATF license. People in the gun scene want nothing to do with the few people who play with that fire. Bump stocks (like the one used in Vegas) and other “legal” mechanical workarounds to that law aren’t black market. You have to look at this problem in terms of likely outcomes and probabilities. Its much easier to make a bomb than a gun, or the quality of gunpowder needed in modern firearms. If someone is intent of killing a bunch of people, they will find a way to do it with the resources available. Ammunition is the limiting resource. Most people don’t know how to reload ammo, and it only works to certain types. Reasonably constraining access, and preventing stockpiling will do more to limit damage than attempting to seize 300 million (+) guns already in circulation. Also, ammo goes stale/out of date. The stuff gets used up quickly.
Let’s talk about how to make schools safe since we cannot control-firearm policies
Any ideas?
Make everyone wear a bulletproof uniform at school
Make bullets hard to come by. That way people can't scream "YOU'RE TAKING AWAY OUR GUNS!!"
How do you avoid black markets selling circuit-free ammo by 1/3 of the price?
The same way we avoid black market selling nuclear bombs
I hate to break it to you, but making a nuclear bomb is a pretty difficult process, hence much easier to prevent trafficking (only a few people can get their hands on it)....ammunition isn’t. Good luck stopping every dude with a cnc machine from cranking our home made “circuit-feee” ammo...
