I left Google to join a second tier tech company. Big promotion huge scope is what they sold me. I started in August and this team is totally disfunctional. My area will take a year and a half of infrastructure work before they can build any product features. They haven't put in any way to track data. It took them 2 weeks to get me a chair. Leadership flip flops on the priorities every few weeks and I just think they hired me too soon. I got an offer from another team. I can start launching stuff now. Should I go to the other team?
I'm not totally leaving just switching to a less disfunctional team. I'm going to help them map out a road map so they can put in the infra and maybe come back in a year.
Happens all the time, but u wear that reputation as a flake forever
Leave the place before it becomes a long gap on your resume and/or be frank about everything that's going wrong and tell them they have to pay you more while you help them fix their problems. I also had to learn this lesson the hard way: Make good use when being asked "Do you have any questions for me?" in an interview. Now, I use the time to probe for red flags: * Culture of blame, or disrespect between developers, QA, and PMs * Non-technical leaders * Developers hate the codebase * Cannot explain roadmap for next six months, or managers and developers say different things * Super old tech stack *...

I wish that's what I thought. But I'm not allowed to do infrastructure. Only my engineering counterpart can lead infrastructure. I've spent tens of thousands of dollars and time to get a cs degree and I'm only able to do features on top of infrastructure

I'm worried about my career but also worried about burning bridges and my reputation as others have mentioned. My reputation is everything. My reputation is what got me the other offer in the first place. I'm just curious what others would say. The valley is so so small
Well I told unrelated people that I was having challenges and I ended up being referred to my friends team and my manager worked with my other friend. They offered me the role on the spot because of those 2 recommendations. Someone who knows someone.

I think he meant the valley is to small to risk running your credibility with your current team, which I disagree. If you expose your concerns and the opportunity the other team is providing to you it should be fine. Chances are they prefer to lose you to another team rather than another company, and no one can blame you if you are leaving for a good reason. I have lost reports for very similar reasons and there was never regrettable attrition.
