How come diversity hires dont include asian people? Makes it kind of unfair.

My roommate is an Asian girl and she works in HR at a large tech company. She informed me that diversity hiring only includes black and hispanics with a heavy focus on hispanics. Why wouldnt you just include everyone? Why exclude asians and indians? Why focus on hispanics, what about black people? Makes absolutely no sense.

There’s an old saying that goes like this “when everything is a priority, nothing is a priority”.

It doesn’t affect me either way, I was curious. Why champion one minority group, neglect the rest, not include another group known? It doesn’t make much sense. A poor Hispanic in America will probably face less issues and have more support than a poor Indian for instance. But now the Indian is out of luck. They should do it by income levels, not by race. Makes absolutely no sense to me.

It is politics stupid. It is about votes!

Symantec MLDS123 Jul 30, 2019

Because Indians and Asians are not underrepresented in tech. I am not sure about the heavy focus on hispanics over blacks.

You have serious deficiency in your wisdom. Whether it is AA or diversity, everything is politics. Do you know how big voting block is for blacks in the country and democrats politics. Hispanics is about largest minority in California. It is why CA is becoming people's Republic.

Diversity hiring focused on URMs - underrepresented minorities. Assuming you’re in the Bay area these groups, while a minority, typically are not underrepresented in tech.

In California I don’t see Hispanics will remain a minority for long. In a couple of decades they are projected to become more than 50%.

If hispanics are not underrepresented in tech, what % of your tech company are hispanic and what % are they of the general population? Data could help understand your position more easily. This says 6% of Dropbox employees and 5% in Tech. https://blog.dropbox.com/topics/company/2017-diversity-update

Well I agree. They should be included too. The point being we should be assessing everyone equally. I didn’t know why they would do something such as focus only on Hispanic hiring. There’s places now looking to hire refugees as special hires. Makes it seem like it’s just a huge PR stunt.

Was at a company that excluded Asian and Indian but included women with black, hispanic and Pacific Islanders. Seemed more excluding than inclusion.

Hispanics and Blacks have historically been bullied in this country since it’s inception. From slavery to the stealing of California and Texas from Mexico, Hispanics and Blacks have been given a beating by this nation. These are reparations.

Because being paid pennies to light dynamite in man made caves for railroads while paying 90% of it back in inflated rent is not bullying, right?

No one forced those Chinese to come here. Blacks were and Hispanics were forced out.

When will they have such quotas for Asians and Indians in the NBA and NFL? Oh wait they won't? So why should the tech industry?

Ya I would like to play for NBA as the 2.8% minority in this country 🤣

I’d like quotas for men with 9 inch penis. I feel left out. Not many like me.

Equinix HWni61 Jul 31, 2019

I literally just posted a question about why everyone at my company hires so many Asians and no Latinos, Blacks, Middle Eastern, and Caucasians.
