I have a very strong sales management background(Director @ Amzn on marketplace team) and am certified in AWS (practitioner) but have never actually sold cloud product as an IC. Total deal breaker? Interviewing at google and two later stage cloud startups soon. I’m of the opinion that sales management, like sales itself, is pretty formulaic and can be applied to any industry/product as long as the employer is patient enough to accept that learning nuances takes a little time. Crazy to think that for this kind of technical sale?
You will probably be fine if you focus on your customers success vs selling a product. Cloud is a different kind of sale - you do not get credit until they deploy. So you need to be a good salesperson with strategic deal making to motivate the migration to cloud - but you also need to be a strategic project manager to get things moving as fast as possible and bring right experts at right time.

It probably depends on the hiring committee. If it’s loaded with non-sales types, they won’t get it.
