You don’t want to learn from msft. Benefits going downhill over time. e.g. private office => open offices.

Years ago, medical was fully covered. No deductible or employee shared costs. No paycheck portion either. Other benefits are better - vesting schedule, 401k, parental leave, etc.

I heard the medical benefit change was driven by the ACA regulations. The old plan would have been subject to the "Cadillac" tax, so it had to go.

Deadpan is right, ACA forced the change not to be classified at "caddillac" and therefore a taxable event. That is also why MS's yearly Contribution towards the deductible isn't 100%

    Re: office space

Some team here at Google wrote a script that helps optimize meeting rooms and times. If you schedule a meeting and there is a more optimal room for you and the recipients, it auto reschedule it for you and the whole group.

The script looks over everyone's calendar and updates based on location and distance to conference rooms, number of attendees, video conference needs, etc. I think it's cool and it has helped to optimize the usage of conference rooms in our offices (especially the NYC location).

We changed to open office footprints to increase person/sq ft ratio, so everyone put on headphones and started to work from home. Then we threatened people to not work from home. Insurance got worse and more expensive. But we are making better movies now, so, that.
