I’ve told them via email I don’t need them. They then followed up and are trying to get a meeting scheduled. So far I haven’t replied. I don’t want the recruiter to get a “finders fee” or have it impact the offers TC since they have to pay the agency.
Tell them you want them to stop and they are not authorized to represent you, or talk to your lawyer. These representative once asked me to sprinkle keyword that I have no experience on into my resume. I'll damage my reputation if I listen.
Sounds like you’re a unprofessional selfish asshole that doesn’t realize how the fee comes from the employer and impacts your TC in no way whatsoever. Hope it all works out as it should for you jerk.
You know it was actually a coworker that recommended I not work with them. They said it’s bad to support the middle men and that overall they just eat at tech salaries since it’s another cost burdened on employers. I suppose I could decline this company and moving forward just never take calls from the “finders fee” types.
How can you prove that TCs aren’t lower since an employer has to pay 20k a head for a recruiter that makes, what, 1 20 min phonecall and sends some emails? It’s a sham business model.
And why exactly do you not want them to get a finders fee, when they literally found you the opportunity ?????
Because I know people on the inside that I could work directly with. Should’ve included that.
Then why did you bother with the recruiter in the first place? Why didn’t you work with the inside people from the outset ?
Greed.
Look, it doesn't matter at this point. If you try to cut the recruiter out, she can still cost you the job once the company finds out there is a dispute. I had a similar experience, an offer was imminent after my friend re-referred me 6 months after a recruiter did. Right or wrong, she fought for her referral fee, but the company didnt want to pay it. They chose a 2nd candidate instead.
Thanks for sharing a prior situation. Do you think if I wait and reapply in 3 or 6 months, that could be fair? If I cease communication with the recruiter, would they still fight for it then?
If the recruiter brought the job in any way to your attention, you owe it to her. It might not matter to the company who they pay the referral fee to. I would try to work it out with the recruiter.
If they set up the opportunity for you, then yes, they deserve their cut.
Why did you work with the recruiter at all in the first place if you didn’t want to let them get their finder’s fee?
I shouldn’t have accepted the call. I’m pursuing multiple opportunities and I didn’t know she was working with this particular company before the call.
So if it was a different company, you wouldn’t mind the recruiter getting a cut?
It won't affect the TC.
What an interesting question

Why would you do that...? That just sounds pernicious and rude. Sure recruiters are some of the most annoying people on the planet but that’s just sick
It was one phone call. That’s it. I just rather do it myself. I don’t want to deal with a middle man and I want maximum TC.
Unless you’re dealing with a tiny startup, the recruiters fee won’t impact your TC/offer. They will pay the least they can get away with either way.
