Go to a good school. Practice a few dozen case interviews. Interview. Accept.
Working at McKinsey was painful, but it accelerated my growth and career, and gave me an edge and perspective that some tech folks lack. I'm glad I did it. But have enjoyed tech far more.
That's what I want to do. Few years of pain to accelerate my career
"perspective some tech folks lack" Lol hearing my co-workers who've never worked outside of tech complain about the food or perks is always amusing/infuriating. "I'm sorry the tax-free gourmet food benefit isn't up to your standards!"
Not easy to get an interview opportunity if you dont have MBA..
At McK now on the Expert path in engineering... look at job postings for McKinsey Digital as a way in the door, no MBA needed, just tech experience and a spike in problem solving, you'll then be exposed to all sorts of client engagements. From there you can pivot to strategy work given you build a sponsorship group internally after joining that will support your transition, expect it to take ~2 years or so. YOE will matter, focus on the impact you've had in your current and previous roles.
