I want to hear from people who worked for start ups that later got acquired by bigger tech giants. How did the acquisition/merger affect your career/life ? Where there layoff ? How did it affect your title, TC + benefits ? TC - 180k
A friend had this experience. After the start up he worked for got acquired by FB, he was converted from startup full time to FB contractor.
Do people make money after the acquisition and what happens to their stock options
After 2 acquisitions office politics only get worse, tc improved, but the hiring bar just keeps dropping. The first one was a nice liquidity event though
Previous startup I worked with got acquired by large unicorn startup. 1/2 of my options got cash and remaining half converted into large unicorn options. It really depends on the deal of acquisition. The entire process is fascinating and complicated as hell though. I had left this company already though and if I look back on what would have happened if I had stayed - the money would have been make or break if I vested all the options. So I don’t regret.
I hear WhatsApp people did OK
Whatsapp people made tons of money and everyone became an instant millionaire
