Yeah, how do you come with stuff and get your inspiration? This is more a question directed to the veterans - not like the the average blind person "I just got out of college and I have an opinion" (like myself). Every company is trying to come up with the next technology innovation. My company has smart people and we don't spare any efforts throwing textbook solutions like design thinking sessions at it. We even built our own incubator and put an actual, physical garage into one of our buildings. Yet, it's Facebook or Google that come up with great open source projects that devs want to use, like React or Kubernetes and manage to build giant open source ecosystems around it - and are able to repeat it. We are open sourcing stuff too, but people don't care about it. When's the last time you heard about OpenUI5? In the rare case you did, do you like it or would you write about it? Exactly. Since I mentioned that I have an opinion, I think companies like mine miss out on the opportunity of translating their own here-and-now problems into solutions that help others companies with similar struggles. And have the courage to it in a different way.

“We even built our own incubator and put an actual, physical garage into one of our buildings.” Sorry this is off topic a bit, but... this actually happened in reality? That’s like trying to make employees more innovative by adding Top Ramen to the cafeteria because that’s what broke start up people eat.
Yes. This is reality.
Honestly the best way to come up with stuff is to try to “beat” someone or something. You need to form a “red team” that is trying to take down the status quo. Otherwise the establishment will crush anything truly innovative. The best companies don’t reserve this just for special “innovation teams” but always operate that way. At Apple, every smaller product is trying to eat more capability from the bigger product. Laptops truly to steal use cases from desktops, tablets try to steal fro laptops, phones try to steal from tablets, watches try to steal from phones, and I’m sure one day, AirPods will try to steal from watches. https://www.aboveavalon.com/notes/2015/12/02/the-grand-unified-theory-of-apple-products
You start from natural curiosity or a problem finds you first. Be open to the world around you. Fresh grads so quick on pushing their "I" agenda - it helps sometimes, yes l, about 1 in a million can become a lucky one, but don't set expectations that high, most likely you are 1 from 999,999.

If you were truly entrepreneurial you would have already started something in college. Otherwise a few years after college you’ll settle into an average office drone who does just enough work to get a paycheck.
How did you come up with stuff in college?
Find a problem in your life or other people’s lives that you can fix using an app, and code it up. I’ve seen a lot of people building useful and interesting things using that mentality.
