Ambien can make you sleep walk and do crazy shit with zero memory recollection the next day. Have you ever been on call while on benzos? How do you deal with it and prevent deleting the production database ;) ?
Can you get off the sleep aids for the on-call duration? Surely you can go a week without. If it's medically necessary, then inform your manager ASAP so they can put someone else on the night rotations. Just be aware you're going to piss off your coworkers by doing so.
You would get nasty withdrawal if you just got off cold turkey like that. I’d be happy to be on call during the day, just not very safe at night.
Then you better tell your manager ASAP that you're medically incapable, and it'd be a good idea to back it up with a doctor's note.
Ambien is not a benzo. It behaves like a benzo but it's actually a z-drug. Just a technicality and not an answer to your question but I just wanted to point out the difference.
That’s why I said ambien or benzo. Some benzos have similar side effects. P.s. never mix Ambien with a selective gaba reuptake inhibitor such as Tiagabine.
Oh, you are the pill people. I've been meaning to ask; is there better living through chemistry or are you a walking advertisement for the new normal?
I’ve heard of programmers in the Bay Area taking provigil - viagra for the brain. Would never mess with that stuff
2 person rule. Escalate early and often.
Page your manager and ask them to find someone to validate your ideas. That's what they're there for.
Managers at Amazon have to respond to on call incidents even if they’re not part of the on call rotation/secondary? That’s still not very safe, you may alter reality and think the other person is saying something else. Prod access and ambien just don’t go hand in hand.
