There is a fresh grad PM on my team. Cool kid. But he is still in the college mind set and thinks everything needs to be done by some artificial timelines and eager to prove his worth (you know, the passionate new grad who just want to change the world.) The problem is he keeps on asking for updates on things and when things can be done because he can’t chill. And it’s starting to cause stress for me. Should I just ignore him? Should I bring it up? It’s annoying as hell cuz he literally checked in everyday like the sky will fall (no it won’t.) Personally think having a new grad who never worked as a PM is can be a poor idea.
Think of yourself as the PMs coach. What do they need to hear to do better? Then tell them that.
If he wanted to make impact, why did he become a PM?
He may be worried he is close to underperforming can tell him to relax in a way that is not agro. 'you seem pretty stressed recently, just want to let you know that you are doing well. Keep up the $(something he actually does well)'
^^ this. It’s his first big project, and I think he is worried about its success.
Move to another team that has a decent PM. Unfortunately you can’t change her overnight.

Well, my advice would be stop setting yourself and others to artificial timelines. It’s corporate, not your homework in college. But I’m not sure how to say it right or if I’m being overly sensitive. Perhaps I will ask my manager his thoughts.
He will need to hit a few walls - politically entrenched dudes giving zero fuck to his timelines - before he can realize how the real world works
Ask him if he understands how your process works in a non-confrontational way... “hey, I noticed you’re asking for timeline updates every day... this work is scheduled this sprint and is on track to be delivered on time. A story this size normally takes X days but that can differ depending on the story... I would of course tell you if we were falling behind schedule and at risk for not meeting our commitments in the sprint during standup...” If he’s that new then he may not fully understand it. Explain it to him if he doesn’t.
Had experience with a similar dude before. Took him a while to realize this is just a job and most of us are just doing this for that pathetic salary, so why make other people's life stressful

What kind of lunatic company hires a PM right out of college? Is he the owners nephew or something? I wouldn’t trust a PM who hasn’t had at least 2-3 years of experience in a development or system analyst role
Every big company
He is a PM, he writes the specs, you write the estimates, he picks whatever he thinks is more important. Once he has the estimate, he should chill out until the time is done
