At amazon, you don’t. It makes you look weak and everyone will walk all over you. Instead, you criticize them and ask why they didn’t do more

I see. Certainly a good thing to have. I don't think we have a specific name for that at Oracle, but we try to have it in place when we declare GA (general availability) of a service.

Yeah, we have classifications of criticality. If you’re hacking something together that’s non-prod, feel free to have a build.sh to push it and no monitoring. If you’re gonna make something important, you better have all the bells and whistles in place.

Honestly starting with cicd is way better and it's so formulaic that it should take you no time to setup.

First part of that statement makes sense. Second part is quite assuming of the situation.

Hand written notes / cards are the best way in my opinion.
These days everything is a text or an email.
I've kept every had written note or card I've ever gotten. They carry alot of sentimental value.

This is the correct way. Do not take them for lunch of dinner. That won't do them much good. They helped you in office, and you make sure that their managers hear this from you. Thank you

Is it just me, or does this thread sound like Zuckerberg is trying to understand how humans show gratitude under a pseudonym?

Best way is a thorough write up to their manager, and formal peer reviewer at review time. This leads to leadership recognition which in turn translates to higher raises, promos, bonuses.

Cards, lunch and private thanks are nice, but nothing beats public praise and leadership attention.

A simple, Thank you” is appreciated. Make sure you help them out when you can.

Don’t make them feel uncomfortable by gifts. If in the US, it isn’t done. At most, buy them a drink or two, if you all go out after work.

I think it was because it was very, very expensive and felt kind of kiss ass-y/bribey.

Thinking about it now others have give small things like a $10 gift card to Starbucks or a small souvenir from vacation and no one was weirded out about that.

Take them for drinks/coffee/boba depending on their preference if this is because a project went well.

If you’re leaving the company (and want to thank them for being there) a thank you card is always nice. I’ve received them and I really appreciated them and I’ve given them to people as well.

My company has Bonusly. It’s honestly amazing. You can send thanks to people that they can monetize but it doesn’t cost you anything and the whole company sees the feed and can comment, notice, cheer someone on for great work.
