How does Rsu(stock) plays into comp?

I was recently offered a new grad Rsu of 160k but how is this really different from getting 100k? Don't understand what 4 yr vesting things mean and all that... is 160k Rsu a really good package compared to my friend who got 100k?

And assuming the stock price stays constant, which it won't

This. Your RSU grant isn't cash, but instead it's however many shares you could buy with that $160k on a specific day. As the stock price varies, so will your net worth.

Talk to your recruiter about vesting schedules. They should be able to break this down to you year by year.

And your friends 100k. 100k of what? Rsu? Yea... It's literally more rsus, rsu=money, if same stock. Am I missing something?

If your friend got way more base salary then their comp package can be equal or better than yours. Otherwise this is a straight apples to apples comparison.

Unless the grants were at different times. 1 year difference in fang stocks could almost be 60% lol

No, that shouldn't be compared because of current stock price. People make that mistake when evaluating 4 year cliff as well.

The price equivalent of RSUs at the grant is what matters in how the company values you. Time adjusted for increase in stock stock should be considered like with currency. No one would consider non inflation adjusted salary comparison to the past a reasonable comparison.

So you got 160k vesting over 4 years. You are getting 12k more per year than your friend

160k in RSU with evenly spaced over a 4 year vesting schedule equates to 40k/year on top of your base salary. Your friend's 100k equates to 25k/year on their base salary which means you'd be making 15k/year more than your friend

(Given that y'all have the same base salary)
