How does background checking work?

Feb 6 8 Comments

I worked at a startup earlier as an intern and they shut down a few months later. I only have an offer letter proof and maybe a few emails about the role that I was given. I've tried reaching the founder, but he doesn't even respond or doesn't have an active email or Facebook inbox.

Can I be rejected for a role if the company cannot verify my employment (as an intern) from the company directly?

Are you lying about your employment? If not, you're golden.

How will they verify if I'm lying or not from their end?

They likely won't try to if the company shut down. You have an offer letter and certainly other records that serve as proof. Calm down, you're going to be fine.

Ah ok, cuz the company's site is still running like how it was 2 years ago and it doesn't officially say they are shut unless you check the founders LinkedIn where he himself left then started something else later

Just provide pay stubs. That’s it.

If you didn’t lie you are fine. The company may come back for more references but it will work out.
