Worried that our top performer is an attrition risk. How do managers handle this?
I have around 4.5yrs of experience and I am currently lvl61 at MSFT (Turning 62 next cycle). I currently have an offer from AMZN for SDE-2, with the following package: $150k base, $110k signing ($62k 1st year, $48k 2nd year), $160k RSU'S vesting 5,15,40,40 percentage in 4 years. The total compensation comes to around $220k 1st year, $222k 2nd year. Is this a good offer for this level and experience? Also, whats the average annual refreshers at Amazon for L5?
L5 tops at 250k
Is the signing upfront each year? Or paid out monthly? Unless you plan to leave after the 2nd year, make sure you consider TC for years 3 and 4. If money is one of your top priorities, you can make more elsewhere (like FB) over the first 4 years
I havent asked the recruiter about the signing payout. Tried interviewing with FB but was abruptly told before phone interview last July that they had stopped hiring for this level for 2017 and haven't heard back from recruiter when I pinged her again in January. BTW, I chose the team I am planning to joining at AMZN after speaking to 5 teams and really liked the work they are doing.
From what I’ve heard, Amazon pays out signing bonus monthly rather than upfront. Ask the recruiter about that. Amazon RSU refreshers aren’t great. Especially considering their vesting schedule. (I used to work at Amazon.) If the work itself is appealing to you and you want Amazon on your resume, I’d say the offer seems fine. My 2c
You can ask for 300k stocks..
Not gonna happen. Amazon’s stock cliff means that you get 40% at 3rd and 4th year each, so that’s 120k stock / year. 1st 2nd year is compensated by sign on bonus.
Good offer, is it Seattle or some other regions?
Can you share your interview experience?
4 rounds. 1 design which went deep into File System storage and stuff. 1 with Leet Code medium problem (DP), 1 was a very good graph question, hadn't seen it before and the last 1 I dont remember (I interviewed in December). My interviews went really well and on reauest they gave me the chance to chose my own team. I spoke to 5 different teams across Amazon (AWS, Alexa, Redshift, Flex) before settling on the team that I am joining!
Which team did you decide on?
U can ask upto 250k if u hv good competing offers and they really need u
I do have a competing offer around $30k TC above this offer, but they haven't relented. I have played hardball already!
Please consider the likelihood of staying for more than 2 years. Most people don't and RSUs are meaningless.
It is meaningful, because your next employer will try to match it.
Good offer..
This is top of L5 level so don’t expect any refreshers for the first two years atleast
