Seems to me companies like FB, Google, AirBnB hire through referrals rather than TA cold calling and reaching out to talents. If one is looking to go to these companies, it’s more about your connections to get that first foot into the door. Thoughts?
Can confirm Facebook, Google, Palantir, LinkedIn, Uber, Yelp, Adobe, Dropbox, and Amazon "cold reach" to potential candidates via LinkedIn and email. I can't confirm how many of those get hired vs referred candidates.
I was "cold-reached" by Dropbox and received offer!
Referrals are great but I’ve also seen threads as long as 3 years old nurturing relationships between recruiting team and candidates. Timing is important and anticipating opportunity that fits.
I disagree about your assumption about them hiring by referrals only. I get cold called from them often. Try looking at profiles of other designers on Linkedin and reworking your profile. Also consider omitting "yahoo" from your "description" that shows up in searches on Linkedin.
Why would I omit Yahoo? Whatever company you work for has nothing to do with your talent, experience, and qualifications to be hire.
