I have friends who interned at FB that got to skip first rounds/coding challenges at Airbnb, Google, and other startups. How good do you have to be to do this? Just the FB name on your resume?
Knowing the use cases for various algorithms and data structures will pretty much guarantee you’re good at least for the first round. That’s what leetcode is supposed to familiarize you to.
In my experience at least first rounds are the same difficulty as the rest. Hackerranks usually a little more so. But that wasn’t my question.
I didn't have to phone screen at Google. I did at Facebook though. I'm sure the rules are pretty arbitrary, but I think at Google it's just based on internal references. If enough people say you're awesome, you're probably clear.
I never phone interviewed with Google except for the first time when I was still in college. Obviously they have record showing I'm decent.
Have they interviewed at those places before? I’ve been able to skip them because I passed them previously but ended up getting rejected. On the next attempts I was allowed to skip it
They did not. Just FB internships.
Probably just at the recruiters discretion then
