How important are recommendations on LinkedIn?

Generally everyone always says good things about the person in those recommendations. So my question is how often are those taken seriously? If you are a hiring manager, how do you look at those? If you're a recruiter, what do those mean for you?

Does it scream desperation to you when you see people with recommendations? Just trying to get an idea of how seriously are they looked in reality.

Not very imo. I’ve had people that I’ve never met endorse me just so I will endorse them back

I look at who has given recommendation. A reco from a manager or above tells me 1. Person has good interpersonal skills OR 2. Is strong in what he/she does Or 3. Both

Things start getting complicated from first tech screen. Until then linkedin reco provide a good additional filter.

40% of hires are from recommendations at Nvidia. At least that is what a recruiter told me.

I'd say depends who they are from, how recent and the content and relevance to the position you are applying to

Although I too like to cultivate these, truth is they are not very important at all. Like a resume they may play some part in getting an interview
