Hi amazon folks, Its been 2 years since NYTimes published about the abusive management and unhealthy work environment. Have you seen the company change from then? My friend is been asking me to join amazon because he works at microsoft HQ and would be great to stay close. I think i hve politely asked about 7 to 8 recruiters to stop contacting by now, connect when the company shows signs of improvement in its culture, but they still keep sending emails. Just want to know if there is any wisdom moving from Chicago to Seattle for Amazon.
I used to work there, and I have another friend who works there currently. I think it is "depends on the group" however, I've never met anyone who has worked at Amazon longer then 4 years. It seems like they push people to the breaking point and then some.
βLonger than 4 yearsβ is interesting, because thatβs when your stock and 401k match are fully vested.
I've worked here longer than 4 years and there's about 50+ people in my org who have too. That's odd that you have never met anyone who has been here longer than 4 years...there are a *lot* of orange badges.
Please don't believe everything you read. News can be fake too. There are more worst places than Amazon. I work there too and it's not bad at all. Pretty much most managers are very accommodating. One off bad experience can be anywhere and that does not make the company bad.
Are you working in tech? Whats your level/team?
The NYT article wasnβt fake. Slanted, perhaps, but it was based on fully researched material. NYT wouldnβt post otherwise. I see positive changes. Agree that there are instances of bad managers, just like anywhere.
Circa 2017- same old, same old....
Not a good company to work for. Completely unethical practices. Treat employees like slaves. Pay you for 8 hrs/day and expect you to work for 12-16 hours/day. No transparency. Brutal culture. I won't recommend anyone working for Amazon, especially when you're in technology.
Yep
You definitely failed T Amazon. If you are not efficient you have to work for 12 hours instead of 8
Only the strong survive
I wish I could downgrade this comment. There's no war for strength. Ethics and transparency are also key to work together, which is completely missing in Amazon work culture. And that's just the beginning of what I want to say about Amazon.
ππ omg I die
I expect this kind of question from an Amazonian! I kicked the ass of the company after gathering all my stocks. ππππππ€£π€£π€£π€£
We're still licking our wounds π. Just reeling from the loss of... poor weak you

I moved from Chicago to Seattle for Amazon and Iβm hecka wise.
Just be prepared to work very hard and set boundaries. Nothing in Chicago comes close to the hussle at Amazon.
My experience is the opposite. It really just depends on your team.
Amazon is still the same. HR is the same, the way managers treat their teams is the same. Everyone is expendable as long as Bezos and the VPs stay happy and the share price continues to grow. A big ship with the captain and his close team stay focused on moving forward with the operational staff getting killed and thrown out - no one notices. Manipulative managers are promoted to Directors and bad Directors become VPs whilst the staff under them struggle the daily grind. Whilst AMZN uses 341,400 staff to generate $2.371b net income annually, AAPL uses 116,000 to generate $45b, FB uses 20,000 for $10.2b and GOOG uses 75,606 for $19.4b. AMZN's business model devalues humanity. The ship just uses too many people for the captain and his team to care. The government are focused on creating jobs to win them the next election so no regulations. Human rights - what is that? Welcome aboard.
Thanks for reply. Have you joined amazon recently or been there for some time?
Does it matter? 'The FACE of Amazon' is a graveyard of fallen souls that lived to tell their stories from onboard the ship. The ones defending here have RSUs to vest.

Iβm Sooo Happy about Biden signing TikTok ban bill today!!
Completely depends on teams but generally seems to be moving in the right direction. Been on two teams and both promote work life balance and I love it here but, again, heavily depends on your manager and you being firm about setting boundaries for work life balance
