Looking at a couple of opportunities for SWE and possible Senior SWE roles in Chicago. Is it a good place to settle down and grow in the tech bubble or should I consider moving to the Bay area or Seattle or NY? Can anyone comment on what compensation I should expect with about 3 YOE?
How was the compensation though? Were you paid at par with other leading companies? And can you also comment on the cost of living?
Yeah pay was fine considering the cost of living. If you are paid 150 in Seattle you will get probably around 100 inChiago. But then houses are cheap there. Also good public transportation. However other then the city there is nothing much to do. No place to hike or drive too. It's endless corn fields in all directions
Stop trolling Jussie. You aren’t getting that raise
I am currently in Chicago for the last 20 years. Tech jobs means only financial and embedded systems. Financial jobs are mainly in trading industry, which pays a lot (120k to 300K depends on your skills). Embedded is mainly Motorola, defense companies that does not pay as much as trading. And of course you get all other jobs like BA, Program, project manager, TPM with that industries as well. Apart from these major players, there are big data, cloud, insurance IT jobs as well in downtown. Main thing is cost of living is cheap and you can live in a big house. If you r young, I will recommend Seattle or Bay area.
Who pays 300k in Chicago? And what is ToE for that kind of money for a developer?
Above 10 YOE, Citadel and similar top tier High frequency prop trading firms pays 150 to 200K in salaries and bonus ranges from 50 to 150k cash.
Houses are cheap there? Lmao.
Some hedge funds there.

Care to elaborate? I'm not sure if you're serious or trolling
I used to live there for 10 years. There is no tech companies other then a few ones here and there. I took me 3 months to even find one I liked. However it's a great place to raise family.
