I heard they hiring like crazy... And there have been many re-orgs. Makes me think they are on shakey ground and the role I would be hired into might deslove or change dramatically. TC: $205k YOE: 13
It’s a dumpster fire. GCP was built like how internal Google infrastructure is and they’re realizing that enterprise customers don’t want or need that. Also, GCP is a bunch of disparate pieces cobbled together. Nothing was designed to work together so it’s all hacked together with tape and chewing gum.
I am really surprised that people like you on blind who have never remotely worked with a particular company have all minute details about it. I cringe reading such comments. Is gossiping your full time job? F5 not giving you enough work to keep you busy? If gcp is dumpster fire than F5 must be erupting volcano?
He is not wrong. Joining GCP few months back, I can confirm it's a complicated hot mess.
Is the general guidance to not join GCP ?
Well, probably not all of GCP is bad. If you join a core cloud team I hope you will have a better experience than me. Sunnyvale/MV has most of the core teams.
Your assumptions are correct. In cloud, and the role that I transferred into last year is definitely not the same this year or even what was described when transferring from ENG org
How do you think it is evolving? Are you happy or ok or miserable or regretting? I am in a pretty sweet spot right now... Just long hours.
I’m actually leaving Google, last day is Friday. I’ve been just meh with definite regret from transferring. As far as how it’s evolving, with as much hiring they have been doing GCP is losing its culture and becoming more like your typical company selling enterprise software. I also think this has a lot to do with the leadership coming in from SAP and Oracle
