I see many Indians from IITs working at Rubrik. I have an onsite interview call.

Wondering whether the onsite is worth the time.

How does it compare with FANGs ? Does it pay well ? Does it have top talent ?

Currently E5 at FB, 360k TC

Again, depends on how you value the stock. If you want low risk high comp, Rubrik (and most other private companies) are bad ideas.

      That’s what most people want:

Low risk and high comp 😂

Nah I prefer high risk and even higher comp.

‘Btw, I wouldn’t recommend FB if you care too much about your WLB’
=> please give some more details on the WLB situation at the E6 level.

Lol E6@FB and you are asking about WLB. It’s like selling your soul to zuck

This is a very informative thread. I took it as a negative that Rubrik folks held back sharing equity ranges. Numbers from other Pre-IPO companies are out there on blind, then why make an excuse of undeterministic price.

In all fairness, I think you’re on the lucky side. Most people after 2017 won’t see the appreciation or the offers you got. Most offers right now bake in the crazy growth we’ve had so that if we continue as expected you’ll only do slightly better than G/FB.

At $3.3b valuation, the equity compensation should be able to stand by itself without relying much on future growth.
After all, once the valuation gets big, the growth slows down. The trajectory is bound to change.

I mean 3.3$ billion is still small compared to TAM. As long as growth is strong and we increase margins, we can get a strong IPO. Obviously I agree that the growth isn’t going to last though.

Equity numbers for Uber, Lyft were widely known even in their pre-IPO stage.

Lyft’s preIPO stock was super inflated. New grads (non-rockstars) used to get offers of 300k+ easy. So let’s not go by that metric.

Base and bonus ranges are comparable to Google/Facebook. Equity grants at this point factor in a super successful IPO.

That comes to $400k four year equity grant at current valuation for L6. That’s very low, very very low.

Am I missing some piece of the picture here? I have heard they attract talent from FB and Goog. This kind of an equity grant won’t work to attract that talent - it’s a significant pay cut.

I think the piece you may be missing is because you are calculating things based on current valuation. No start up will match FANG stock options at it's current valuation. It's always based on where that startup will be in the future, and one is given a premium for the risk involved.

Investors already factor in future growth when evaluating a company. So when a company is recently valued and that too at a multi billion valuation, it will be too aggressive to assume a 2-3x more growth on top of that.

When you 2x revenue YoY, you will see something like 2x valuation.

Also, if investors already factor in future growth, they wouldn’t invest right? They want to make multiples on their investment when they exit.

As a place to work, it's a mixed bag, like every place is. Lot of energy and attempts to be "high velocity", but generally lacking solid engineering practices. Lots of individual heroics that keep the place afloat. Experienced candidates tend to find it hard to establish themselves in existing teams since individual velocity is the primary metric. Most managers and tech-leads are first timers who joined Rubrik earlier than you and generally lack a wider perspective. And yet, it's better than most places in the valley.

Is the realization there of what experienced people bring to the table? And when they join are they given sufficient time to ramp up?

Is it just engineering practices or are there only islands of top notch engineers, and not everyone is up to mark?

I generally don't think the company values experience as much as it should. That said most teams will give you time to ramp up. I have seen exactly one instance as an exception. I do think every team has at least 1-2 top engineers surrounded by lots of New College Grads. If you pick a team that has a wide scope, you'll be able to find something to build off of.
