How is Tesla’s work life balance for engineers?

A recruiter from Tesla is reaching me out already 3rd time in a month convincing to move to Tesla. I’ve heard engineers are working crazy hours there and the culture in the company is not too great. Anyone here from Tesla?

Typical for my org is 9 - 6 in office. 8pm to 12 am at home. Repeat. We work Saturdays at home and we work on most holidays

Damn bro, you should have got other offers. Not on AP but making ~235k TC. 5 yoe. Much less now tho, down like 40%, so tc is more like 205... 😢

Don't go there if you have a life outside work. And don't go there if you don't drink the Elon musk bullshit koolaid

Think of the Pharaohs, surely the pyramids look impressive but does anyone care about the slave labor that built them? No

I always thought that was hilarious. Like (a) he doesn’t know shit about factories so why the hell is he even there and (b) the ceo being in the factory is a sign of a deeply dysfunctional company- it’s something I would hide not brag about.

It looks good on the resume. Use it as a stepping stone. If you already have other big name companies then don't even bother.

Doesn't specially look good. That's what they tell you internally

It's the reason I got to the bay area in the first place. I'll always be thankful for that :)

It's a wonderful balance if all you care about is work, lol

Seriously though, for me I spent three years busting my butt with 60hrs/wk. Now I'm back at 40hrs/wk and it's good, except during rush times which happen maybe every 3-4 months where we stay really late for a few nights.

Yes, you need to be on alert for critical emails all the time pretty much

Small team, I'd be giving too much away, but am in RnD

Depends on the team. Can definitely get by with a ~40hr work week, though some teams (autopilot, new manufacturing lines, etc.) will require more time commitment.

Depends on how far from production you are. The further you are from impacting the factory... Not so bad.
