    Ahh, the opportunity to vent.

It’s kind of bad. It’s heavily kool-aid driven. The high performers think they’re the shit. For a company that’s growing this fast, you’ll be surprised at how many important people are leaving out of frustration. I think at least 60-100 people have left over the last few years- all the people who were great to work with. It’s weird since the culture is supposed to be all about no ego and fun smart people who contribute and care, but the few bad eggs drove most of them away. There are a few gems still around though.

Engineering is a complete shit show. Not uncommon to see people work 60-70 hours a week even at 2am on weekends, even the ones with kids, mainly due to using outdated technologies, so it’s literally impossible to iterate on the product effectively.

The product has hardly progressed with rehashes of the same thing under different names. Sales, retail and business are carrying the team by heavy lifting but getting less pay than engineers. PMs - they’re ok. Need to learn to stand up to mgmt and give them a little piece of their mind on what’s important and to iterate faster.

But, they will surely succeed since at this point, all they need to do is tweak the main product and that’s sufficient to 2x every year for a few years now. Even the founder knows this, since he got his early employees to start other companies for other profitable ideas that they’re investing in, now that Affirm has it’s cash cow.

And don’t get yourself wrong about honest lending or whatever they say, this is about lending people money to buy dumb sneakers at 30% interest rate - no late fees or not - this is only slightly better than credit cards.

I'd say product is less than "okay". They could be a lot better - very few of them actually have legit PM experiences from before and they all think they run the show.

Culturally, it’s a typical Startup (nothing bad or good, that’s how it is), u need to strive for your place. And it varies by team and manager.

I recently heard a person was fired for low performance reason, but actually the employee refused to work after 7pm and on weekends.

Have you not had Capital Markets 101? Our defaults rates are not the full picture of our unit economics. Or am I missing your point?

Makes sense. But why are you at Affirm if you don't believe in it's premise?

Your logic sounds like “why are you in USA when you dislike Trump”.

The answer, the current market is a bull market and VCs love to throw money at our celebrity CEO.

Their rejection email is very well written than most companies. Totally would apply for them again...later.

Trashed the email. Why clutter inbox with rejections even if it's a good one?

Good people are leaving as they don’t see any growth. Affirm would not survive market downturn as most of the loans will go bust(why??....who would take a loan with 30% interest rate...you guessed it rite). It is technically a new version of payday loans.

Is that why? I don’t think so. I think we can do well in market downturn and we definitely have growth - you should know that.

Sure it looks really rosy now, payday loans make a ton of money. Check Qudian (the Chinese big brother of Affirm) stock after the IPO.

In our next all hands Please ask Max why is our company not disclosing loan default percentage publicly.

I'm with Query1 here, don't think we would survive a downturn.

Buy dumb sneakers at 30% interest rate - who would do that? Sounds like the sub-mortgage crisis in 2008 all over again.

Culture is org a bit org dependent. I'd say in general, not as great as it makes it seems. The Glassdoor reviews can be very deceiving - management and leadership are weak, people development is almost non existent, and directions change a lot. Overall, the culture is pretty top down, you're lucky if you are doing something that you think is the right thing to do, most are being told what to do by their managers or execs.
