Started recruiting, realizing most high paying firms (e.g. Two Sigma) outaide FANG are 9-5. I work 11-6 (sometimes 12-6), anyone who's shifted from or to a normal hour job, how was it?
How has your performance been 11-6?
Pretty good. Manager likes me and I'm doing the kind of work (C++ infra) that I like doing.
That legendary Google work-life balance. When I'm ready to retire I hope it's still like that
Doesn’t Netflix actively promote a good wlb?
Engineers don't have to work 9-5 at two sigma
'Have to'?
Depends on the team I guess. For some, there is no judgement if you come in at 11.
Looking at all this, I’m overall happy with my job. I arrive in my office at 8:45 am. Have my breakfast and sit in front of my laptop doing my own work (blog, edx, reading, etc.) until 10:30. Then do actual office work till 3 pm. Sneak into the back stairs for a 20 min nap and then work again till 5 pm. Wrap up everything and leave at 5:30 pm. Go back home to cook amazing food and share it with friends and have some great conversations. I have a B or B+ career earning 130k as total comp but love the balance my job gives me.
lol 11-6 at a FANG company? No wonder you are looking for a job.
Doesn't count my frequent WFHs
Not everyone works at a sweatshop like Amazon
