How many LC per day ?

Oct 6 16 Comments

Hey folks,
Thanks a lot for making my previous post (LRU Cache - Are u f*** kidding me !!) a hot topic on Blind lol.
When I started LC, I used to do 5-6 questions per day. As I get into the toughest medium and towards hard, I find it kinda overwhelming to do 3 questions every day, besides the 150+ previously done that I need to keep periodically reviewing (say 1-2 reviewed per day).

So what was your experience ? How many LC per day you judge reasonable to really grasp the intuition/technique behind every question ?

lol y’all are crazy. 150+ LC? 3-6 a day?? why kill yourself like this? i did like 3 a week for a few weeks.

then just line up your interviews from least favorite to favorite company (roughly) so you get more in practice for the ones that matter more.

this is why i don’t come on blind so much these days, i start getting stressed out seeing what others do... life balance matters

Great point, blueriver. I did exactly zero LC questions when I interviewed for my current job.

      People really need to chill.

Depends on previous experience and knowledge. Someone in college who’s never interviewed and is studying DS and Algo would need a ton more practice than maybe you do since you probably are more confident and skilled in the area

i mean maybe but i think once you get to the 150 LC point, more isn’t going to help. i would start lining up real interviews at this point. (i would start real interviews way before 150 even for a new grad)

A common standard is 2 LC medium in 45 min. Where are you on confidence in being able to do that? If you can’t do that then a guy looking for a job probably isn’t gonna be comfortable interviewing

I timed myself and I can do most easy in 2-3 minutes - so 10-15/hour. Mediums take ~5-10 minute - usually can do 5-7/hour. Hard from 10 min to could not figure it out without reading solution.

I did competitive programming in school and solving tricky tasks is fun. Not looking for new job - just doing it for fun from time to time.

Code on computer that passes all test cases on Leetcode with desired complexity for easy/medium. Sometimes (rarely) I get complexity wrong obviously.

Hard sometimes I can figure out very quickly and sometimes get stuck.

It takes me about double that and I thought I was quick.

I've gotten top 10 twice now in LC contests. Usually involves reading problem, coding, and passing all test cases on first try on 4 problems (easy,2xmedium,hard) in under 15 mins total. Also did competitive programming in the past and was fairly high ranked on codeforces.

Yeah, i can usually solve the problem in my head as I read it and then I just need to code it as fast as possible. I have like 140WPM so that helps.

Most of the 15 mins is actually spent checking that my solution is correct because if you dont pass a single test case when you submit, you're fucked due to penalty (wont even get top 30).
