How many SWE working at top companies?
Blind is a bubble of silicon valley people working at FAANG type companies. I would imagine there’s tons of normal (e.g. geico) and small companies without crazy leetcode tests and very high salaries. What percentage of people actually work at top companies? Top companies includes FAANG of course, but also companies like Microsoft or Yelp or high paying interesting startups. Really anything with pretty high TC and a FAANG level hiring bar. I wouldnt include legacy companies like Cisco or IBM.

The vast majority of programmers don't even live in silicon valley
Of course, but lots of people in NY, Seattle, and other areas can be included in this as well.
I would wager that the vast majority of programmers love outside those three cities as well. Looots of people doing dev work for the local county, university, car dealer, etc in pretty boring roles.
