@Ufmg36, LYFT starts trading on the exchange tomorrow. Every broker will have access.

If you wanted IPO allocation, you'd have to be a certain kind of customer with the underwriters. In this case JPM Chase was lead underwriter with Credit Suisse.

    • Ha ha Thumbtack. We know that. Read the comments again. That's what we are saying. Lyft valuation is high, ipo should be priced way lower than the current 72. You clearly don't know the difference between sarcasm and stupidity.

    Just remember this:
Groupon Market Cap First Trading Day: 16.5B
Groupon Market Cap 6 months after: Less than 5B
Groupon Market Cap Today: Less than 2B

It's possible that this company would be worth pennies by the time employees can cash out. Not saying that's gonna be the case, but it's definitely a possibility.

Let's wait 6 months to poll who is rich and who got fucked.

Transportation is totally different. The only fear is with regulations and all the 1099s mess with the drivers. When expanding to other countries, which they most certainly will do, it’ll be a shit show, as Uber has already faced.

All currencies should ideally lose some value every year and is good for the economy. Otherwise you will have deflation and no one will want to spend money today because it will be worth more tomorrow... Or at least a lot of people.

Yeah... Except inflation is happening at an unhealthy rate though right? , driven by what I assume is mostly from excess liquidity. Right now, inflation happens in asset classes that probably don't really hurt the average consumer all that much, although if it keeps happening, and and shifts from non liquid assets into very liquid assets, and from things like real estate to commodities that are critical to everyday life, it might turn into a Stiglitz cycle.

Like I don't want to become Japan, but neither do I want to see property go from 1 mil to 2 in 3 years. I didn't make a mil so easily in 3 years

lyft’s more “focused” narrative is such a bad euphemism for being vastly less diversified and over indexed on 1 LoB and 1 geo (where they’re still in 2nd place)

Lyft and Uber’s market position is already reflected on their valuations. And if you look around, there is and there will be always at least one second player in any market. If I were Uber VC I would probably hope for Lyft IPO to go well so Uber can ask for higher price per share

You could buy Puts as soon as its listed - but keep in mind that the premium on the Put will be VERY high on the first couple of days - everyone will be expecting huge moves.
A much safer bet will be to Buy the stock and sell covered calls to protect your position. This way will allow you to gain from the premium decay daily - pretty well established strategy for during high volatility periods/stocks.
      Mar 28
    • My strategy is to wait for it to go up based on the hype, then I will massively short it.

Was that lockout? From what I remember that had more to do with the fact that FB was all on web and no presence on mobile (meaning there was $0 ad dollars on mobile). The big question from the financial markets was whether FB could make the transition (obviously we did).

Comparing to snap is just plain idiotic. Snap has no real utility. On the other hand I use lyft when I am on the road anywhere in the us. With autonomous driving eventually happening it’s just gonna be an automated taxi fleet taking in money. Compared to Uber lyft is more focused and that helps a lot. It also has much lower valuation than Uber and has taken quite a bit of market from Uber in the us. Naysayers - be ready to get your buts kicked in the near future. Short term who cares ....

I hope they’re successful. The Valley has lost a lot of optimism it used to have like half a decade ago. It would be nice to see more positive news and have people come back to focusing on the opportunities of tech rather than focusing on what’s wrong with it.

I also have friends that work there so it would be nice to see them successful.

With that said, the business feels like it has a winner-take-all dynamic and is also zero sum. So once a country is lost, other competitors can’t compete. And it seems like competitors have already thrown massive amounts of money to the big international markets.

I don’t know how close we are to market saturation but Uber and Lyft have been aggressively growing for quite awhile in the US.
