@Ufmg36, LYFT starts trading on the exchange tomorrow. Every broker will have access.

If you wanted IPO allocation, you'd have to be a certain kind of customer with the underwriters. In this case JPM Chase was lead underwriter with Credit Suisse.

    • Are you guys this stupid? He/She said $70 is high -> valuation is high. Lyft ipo should be priced lower. This is a company which is projected to not make a penny profit in next 5 years. If stupid people like you guys keep buying the stock, it doesn't matter though.

@ SAP folks: the other people commenting sarcastically are trying to tell you that when talking about valuation, share price alone doesn't matter. You could have a price of 70 and just a 100 shares which would give you a valuation (market cap) of $7000.

The number you wanna talk about for lyft is $24B
      Mar 28
    • Ha ha Thumbtack. We know that. Read the comments again. That's what we are saying. Lyft valuation is high, ipo should be priced way lower than the current 72. You clearly don't know the difference between sarcasm and stupidity.

So does the 6 month freeze also applies to other VCs who hold shares? If yes, then makes sense. But if all major early investors are allowed to sell, and only employees blocked, then it is unfair.

Groupon Market Cap First Trading Day: 16.5B
Groupon Market Cap 6 months after: Less than 5B

Yeah... Except inflation is happening at an unhealthy rate though right? , driven by what I assume is mostly from excess liquidity. Right now, inflation happens in asset classes that probably don't really hurt the average consumer all that much, although if it keeps happening, and and shifts from non liquid assets into very liquid assets, and from things like real estate to commodities that are critical to everyday life, it might turn into a Stiglitz cycle.

You could buy Puts as soon as its listed - but keep in mind that the premium on the Put will be VERY high on the first couple of days - everyone will be expecting huge moves.
A much safer bet will be to Buy the stock and sell covered calls to protect your position. This way will allow you to gain from the premium decay daily - pretty well established strategy for during high volatility periods/stocks.

Comparing to snap is just plain idiotic. Snap has no real utility. On the other hand I use lyft when I am on the road anywhere in the us. With autonomous driving eventually happening it’s just gonna be an automated taxi fleet taking in money. Compared to Uber lyft is more focused and that helps a lot. It also has much lower valuation than Uber and has taken quite a bit of market from Uber in the us. Naysayers - be ready to get your buts kicked in the near future. Short term who cares ....

I hope they’re successful. The Valley has lost a lot of optimism it used to have like half a decade ago. It would be nice to see more positive news and have people come back to focusing on the opportunities of tech rather than focusing on what’s wrong with it.

I also have friends that work there so it would be nice to see them successful.

With that said, the business feels like it has a winner-take-all dynamic and is also zero sum. So once a country is lost, other competitors can’t compete. And it seems like competitors have already thrown massive amounts of money to the big international markets.

I don’t know how close we are to market saturation but Uber and Lyft have been aggressively growing for quite awhile in the US.

Lyft IPO will shoot 90-100 range on day 1.
Will lose 50% of that before employees can cash out.

Question is how many gonna short it? With what amount? 10k? 25k? 50k? 100k? Or more?

I think they have learned from the FB IPO, they so far they are stable on 20% growth on day 1, that tells me it will be steady. But you never know.

    • 50K of options. Short assuming 5$ per option. Means 10k short positions times 82-stick price so adobe is like already at (140K -50K) = 90k profit

There should be a reason why Lyft is rushing to go ipo. May be they have a chance with ipo money to go global. If Uber is not going IPO in next 6 months. Lyft has a shot to compete.

The other reason is they want to ipo before recession hits.

Uber is already global. Where Uber and Lyft haven't gone, there are other clones already. Lyft's value proposition is autonomous driving delivery platform 100%
      Mar 28
    • Amazon dataiq
Lyft can buy those clones with ipo money
      Mar 28
    • Uber Xidl
If you read the balance sheet, Lyft would be out of money before the end of year, so either ipo now or raise another round. 2b+ raise this ipo round gives it a lot of ammo to expand further before they’re forced to tighten again and actually make money.

Which brokers offer short sell, and how much do they charge? Also, what do you guess about short sell cover time for a hot IPO like Lyft? I am a young investor, no prior experience in short sells.

You will be surprised. Many early employees probably left too early or didn’t exercise in full. People joined late probably don’t have enough shares. If at some point before ipo lyft had a liquidation events many would sell. Don’t forget, for a very long time uber was dominating the market, the outlook of lyft was not so rosey. It was easy to let shares go.
VCs, founders and execs probably will come out ok.

Day finished with mere 9% up, -$10 less than the peak! AMD even shoots 10%+ for no reason on a regular trading day. So this is lackluster day 1 IPO performance. Let’s check back where LYFT ends on Week 1, Month 1, Month 3, Month 6, and Year 1 after the IPO.
